Our Story

In 2023 we started our plant nursery, Rhodes Roots, as a family homeschool project. The goal was to provide the best quality plants to our friends, family, and community - while teaching our boys about business and how to be an Entrepeneur.

We take pride in being the first certified, commercial-producer, neighborhood plant nursery in the Antioch, California area. Being small-scale allows us to grow all of our plants in-house and ensure that they are healthy, vibrant, and always well-cared for --- ready to be taken home by our customers!

At Rhodes Roots Family Farm, we offer a variety of non-GMO seasonal starter plants: veggies and herbs (with the occasional fruits, flowers, and succulents). We help our customers create beautiful garden spaces and help the community embrace sustainability: grow your own!

Welcome to Rhodes Roots Family Farm Nursery

  

Why purchase your starter plants from Rhodes Roots, a local urban farm rather than a Big-Box store/nursery?


  • We are a Local, Certified, Commercial Producer that starts and grows everything that we sell. We do not buy plants to re-sell them. So, you know you are purchasing directly from the producer when you buy Rhodes Roots.


  • All plant varieties that we offer are varieties that we have grown or are growing at our farm for our family to enjoy. So, you can feel free to ask about a particular variety you are interested in.


  • We strive to offer a wider variety of veggie and herb starter plants than your typical nursery. To do this, we sow a wide variety of seeds in small quantities weekly. So come early in the day for the best selection of varieties.


  • Our plants are started from a non-GMO seed or a cutting that was propagated on our farm.


  • Our homemade seed starting mix and potting soils only contain quality, organic materials and are hand-mixed in small batches.


  • Our production process is performed by us, by hand, including soil preparation, sowing seeds, potting-up, watering, and hardening-off. All of this is done without automation or big machinery. 


  • Our veggie and herb starter plants are germinated and grown indoors, under grow lights for several weeks; This gives them a huge head-start for your garden.


  • Our plants have been potted-up at least once, from the container they were sown or propagated in. This results in a bigger, happier, healthier plant with a stronger root system.


  • Our plants have been hardened-off and have adapted to the natural sunlight. “Hardening-off” is a process where the plant is gradually introduced to the outdoor environment and natural sunlight for an increased amount of time each day for at least a 1-week period.


  • We are your local producer/nursery.
